LWC RESTORES WATER SUPPLY, URGES RESIDENTS TO BE PATIENT

Lagos Water Corporation has restored water supply to Lagos metropolis recently affected by epileptic power supply due to vandalism of gas pipelines in the Niger Delta Region of the Country.

The LWC Group Managing Director (GMD)/CEO, Mr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus who stated this during a Press Conference at the Water House in Ijora, recently, said the heavy duty pumps at the waterworks required high voltage and added that the IPP built for some of the waterworks have not been working in full capacity because of the disruption in gas supply. The LWC boss appealed to the residents of the State to be patient, as the Corporation is working assiduously to ensure water supply get to every part of the State and assured those that have not received water now to be patient as Water supply will get to them soon.

Mr. Badmus who said the Corporation was not happy with the development and has taken steps to redress the situation by reconnecting some of the waterworks to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and some diesel-powered generators expressed hope that in the next few days, Lagosians would see an increase in the supply of the Service. He said, LWC was also looking at other options, including Solar and propane to power the waterworks.

The Water Corporation Group Managing Director who debunked rumours that the state government was planning to privatize the Water Corporation explained that government was only discussing with investors to boost water supply, as the project is not a profit driven. ‘’In addition, LWC has also completed arrangement with investors to implement commercial water distribution kiosk projects as a pilot scheme to install, manage and generate revenue from the venture using pre-paid meters”. The pilot scheme is expected to commence from recently commissioned Otta-Ikosi Regional Waterworks and will be extended to Mosan Okunola Mini Waterworks of 2Million Gallons per Day.

Mr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus seized the opportunity to appeal to residents to bear with the Corporation in its strive to address the challenges and to stop illegal connection of water pipes as such act can leads to cross contamination in water and results in water-borne diseases, such as gastric-flu that may lead to cholera, diarrhea among others and urged the public to report anyone engaging in any illegal connections to water mains through the LWC help line or Customer Care Line on 07045973012 or our email on info@lagoswater.org.
