LAGOS STATE GOVT IS COMMITTED TO SAFETY OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES OF HOST COMMUNITIES

Lagos State Government, through Lagos Water Corporation has responded to the Publication in Nation Newspaper of Sunday 12th June 2016, titled “Iludun, host to Lagos Water Works, yet suffering lack and devastation”.

In his response to the publication, the Lagos Water Corporation, Group Managing Director/CEO, Engineer Muminu Adekunle Badmus, said the State is committed to Safety of lives and properties of inhabitants of host communities of its facilities. He said that in line with International best practices the Corporation has carried out an Environment Impact Assessment prior to the execution of the Project.

The GMD/CEO further explained that the channel for backwash water was originally designed as a drainage, which gradually became bigger overtime. Engineer Muminu Badmus stated that it is the practice of the Corporation to discharge Wastewater into the approved channel.

He however re-assured that effort at remedying the situation has commenced with a comprehensive study of the environment towards proffering a lasting solution.

Meanwhile, the Consultant has completed the study and submitted the report to the State Government, which is currently being reviewed with a view to possible remediation by the State Government, he concluded.
