In a bid to be acquaintance with Water treatment processes, and have a feel of the different equipments and facilities used in treatment of potable water in Lagos State, Secondary School Students from different schools in the State made an excursion to the Iju Waterworks, today 7th August, 2018.

The visit/excursion was part of activities lined up by Lagos State Government, Ministry of the Environment to mark year 2018 Conservation Encomium for Students in the State.

Students and Staff from different schools including Vetland schools and Lagos Model College Ignonla were led to the Waterworks by Officers from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment.

LWC delegates were led by the Head, Staff Training, Mrs. Aramide Alaka, accompanied by Head, Quality Assurance Mrs. Monsurat Banire, Staff of Staff Training and Quality Assurance.

Mrs. Banire took the Students round the Waterworks, particularly different strategic stations of the Plant, including the Ogun raw water pumping station, in-let chambers, flocculation/aeration tank, the sedimentation tank among others, and gave them indepth and detailed knowledge on water extraction and treatment.

Mrs. Banire explained how raw water is extracted from the Ogun River, through different processes of filtration and chlorination before final consumption at home.

While giving a vote of thanks, Oyaleke Deborah, a student from Vetland Senior grammar School commended the LWC GMD/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, management and entire Staff of the Corporation for sustainability of the Waterworks/Plant, stating that the excursion has made them ambassadors to other students in Lagos State to teach them the processes of water treatment.

Other observers during the excursion also expressed contentment with the efforts of the Corporation, particularly in the area of improved Customers service delivery in the State.

The Lagos Water Corporation on Saturday 21st July 2018 begins the repair of water leakage on 600mm diameter pipe located between Oyingbo – Iddo motorway.

This was contained in a statement released by the Corporation’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus in Lagos, today Friday 20th July, 2018.

Engr. Muminu said the the repair work is inevitable at this period to ease traffic movement in the area, *before the closure of the 3rd mainland bridge scheduled for Friday 27th – Sunday 29th July, 2018.*

He added that the Officers of the Nigerian Police, Lagos State Transportation Management Authority (LASTMA) and other Traffic Officers would be available during the period of the exercise to give way to motorist plying this road as the exercise is *expected to be completed before Tuesday 24th July, 2018.*

Meanwhile, some parts of Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Surulere and Yaba Ebute Metta may experience disruption in Water supply during this period, in order to fast track the repair work for effective service delivery.

LWC therefore regrets any inconveniences caused at this period and assured the general public of steady water supply soon, as the Corporation is working relentlessly to serve you better.

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government Own Companies (SSASCGOC), Lagos State chapter paid a courtesy visit to Lagos Water Corporation, Ijora Lagos, on Tuesday 17th July, 2018.

The SSASCGOC delegates were received by the Corporation’s Management led by the GMD/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, at the Water House, Ijora.

Other management staff present at the meeting included the Corporation’s Head, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Dada Adefolaju; Head, Project Accounts, Mr. Aro Ibraheem; Head, Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Sheriff Akinpelu; Head, Sales and Commercial, Mr. Michael Ajose.

Others were: Engr. Ibrahim, Mr. Oriola, Mrs.Osomo Risikat among others.

The new SSASCGOC State Chairman, Mr. Olatunbosun Alao who led the Association’s delegates to the Water House was in company of some notable State and LWC Charpter Executives.

While receiving the Association team to the LWC Boardroom, the LWC boss, Engr. Badmus thanked the Association for their continuous supports and understanding towards moving the Corporation forward.

Vital Issues were discussed during visit, which included the Core Values of the Association (SSASCGOC), such as:

In his closing remark, the State Chairman of SSASCGOC, Mr. Olatunbosun on behalf of the Association lauded Engr. Badmus led management for heeding to their requests/calls even with his tight schedule, and prayed for more strength and wisdom to take the Corporation to greater height.

The new State Executive, was inaugurated on the 10th April, 2018 at the National Secretariat, Lagos.

The Lagos State Government says it has sealed Total Filling Station in Akoka area over alleged pollution of water sources.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, said in a statement on Friday that the filling station’s underground tank reportedly had leakage which polluted water sources in the community.

He said that the intervention of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) prompted the filling station to correct the leakage and stopfurther pollution of the environment.

”Going forward, we have directed that an Environmental Forensic Audit be carried out immediately to determine the exact source and extent of the pollution,” he said.

Durosinmi-Etti directed immediate closure of the filling station pending the outcome of the environmental forensic audit.

He said that government would not hesitate to take any meaningful measure to protect the health and well being of the citizenry.

The commissioner called for the decommissioning of boreholes installed by Total as palliative for the affected residents.

He urged management of the Total Filling Station to liaise with the Lagos Water Corporation for the supply of pipe-borne water to the affected residents, while further findings on the pollution were ongoing.

Durosinmi-Etti said that LASEPA had been mandated to monitor and ensure the implementation of the directives given to the fuel station. (NAN)

*LASG reaffirms commitment to water service delivery

Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the uninterrupted delivery of clean and potable water to Lagos residents.

Speaking during a media briefing at the weekend, the Managing Director/CEO, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus declared that the State Government does not intend to privatise the State Water sector, but is rather investing heavily in the provision of potable water supply to the ever-increasing population of the State.

Badmus explained that the State recently funded and completed short-term plans to improve water production and supply to Lagos residents by the rehabilitation of the major waterworks – Adiyan 70MGD, Iju 40MGD, and Ishasi 4MGD; as well as Akute and 48 mini-waterworks across the State.

According to him, the repair works have enhanced output and improved water distribution in the State, thereby reducing the hardship experienced by Lagosians in getting water to their various homes.

Engineer Badmus noted that as part of the long-term plans of the State, the Corporation has developed the Lagos Water Supply Master Plan (2010 – 2020) which includes the ongoing construction of Adiyan Phase II to enhance its capacity to 70 million gallons per day, connection of over 200,000 premises and additional three million residents.

“On completion, it will boost water pressure in urban areas of the western axis of Lagos State. These include Ikeja, Agege, Dopemu, Mushin and parts of Ikorodu and Igbogbo Township” he said.

“To be frank, the Adiyan II water treatment plant is 85% completed, and the reticulation billed for PPP is the only viable option” Badmus added.

He disclosed that the Igbonla Phase I, Water Scheme of 100 million gallons per/day, which will complement current production and close demand gap when completed, is also part of the State government’s long-term plans to supply potable water to Victoria Island – Lekki corridor, adding that discussions are ongoing with the contractor to encourage Public-Private Participation (PPP) in the water sector.

He said the Lagos State Government is also investing heavily in other projects to attract private investors and engender injection of fresh funds that will generate ideas as well as creative strategies to grow the sector.

In his words, “it has been realised by governments worldwide that funding of government programmes and projects can no longer be sustained by the government alone as evidenced in the global economic recession and decline in oil revenue. This has therefore led public sectors in the world into resorting to seeking private intervention and participation in the implementation of government policies”.

The LWC boss explained the State government is focused on inclusion of the private sector in the development of agenda of Lagos State to accelerate service delivery rather than the sale of government-owned assets to private entities.

“The Second National Urban Water Sector Reform Project (2NUWSRP) in collaboration with World Bank is geared toward supporting the Lagos Water Corporation in this direction” he buttressed.

He expressed confidence that Private-Public Partnership will encourage efficiency that will curb waste, eradicate delayed delivery and forestall abandonment usually associated with public projects.

Badmus revealed that other projects still in the works are Yewa I, Ishasi Expansion, Igbonla II, Adiyan III, Yewa II, Ibeshe I and Ibeshe II.

 

The KSB Pumps management today 13th June, 2018, visited the Africa largest water producer in Sub-sahara Africa, Lagos Water Corporation on familiarisation with Lagos Water Corporation.

The KSB Pumps delegation was led by the Managing Director (KSB Pumps South Africa), Dr. Sven Baumgarten; Manager (Sub-sahara Africa, KSB Pumps) Mr. David Jones) and Area Manager (Western Africa KSB Pumps Ghana) Mr. Outare Kokobissi.

The KSB Pumps Managing Director, Dr. Sven Baumgarten said, their visit was in line with the Company strategy, having chosen LWC as one of their priorities to further established the Company with Corporation.

While receiving the KSB Pumps delegates, LWC representative was led by the MD/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus; COO, Engr. Deji Johnson; Head, Projects and Strategy, Mr. Sikiru Ogunlana.

Others are: Engr. Suraj Ijaiya, Engr. Kudehinbu, Engr. Abass and Engr. Ibrahim.

 

*Agbowa, Lagos*- The Agbowa Community leaders and it’s environs recently visited Lagos Water Corporation, Otta-Ikosi Regional Water Scheme in appreciation of improved Water supply/delivery to the Agbowa communities and it’s environs of Lagos State.

The delegation were led by some Regents, Chiefs and representatives from the 11 communities in Ikosi, Ejinrin and Imota LCDAs of Lagos State served by the 4MGD (Million Gallons per Day) Regional Water Scheme.

While lauding the the efforts of the management of the Corporation led by the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, the regent of Orugbo Iddo, Chief Nureni Liasu said, “we present here today to show our sincere appreciation to the Management of the Corporation for improved Water supply to our communities.

” For some time now, Water supply to our communities has improved greatly, so, we decided to visit the waterworks to show appreciation to Lagos Water Corporation”.

In his statement, the Alashe of Otta-Ikosi, Chief oluwafemi, enjoined the Corporation to provide Public fountains within the communities and also, pledged their support by sensitisation the people in their respective communities on the need to pay Water bills as when due.

He however, implored the Corporation to be consistent in service delivery, adding that reported burst pipes within the areas should be addressed promptly.

While receiving the Agbowa delegates to the Water Scheme, the LWC Zonal Sales and Commercial Manager (Ikorodu Team Leader), Mrs. Dawodu Bukola thanked the visitor for their appreciation and promised consistency in Customers Service Delivery.

The Otta-Ikosi Production Manager, Mr. Balogun Kamor, while taken the delegates round the LWC facilities, urged them to protect the project jealously, noting that potable water supply is parts of the efforts of the State Government, through Lagos Water Corporation to bring water to every home in the State.

The Otta Ikosi Regional Water Scheme was commissioned on the 19th May, 2016 to supply potable water supply to Otta Ikosi and it’s environs.

This signified a milestone in the delivery of sustainable water infrastructure to bring succour and alleviate the water challenges of the beneficiary communities located in Epe and Ikorodu local Government areas.

The water supply scheme is a Modern-day water scheme serving 11 communities between Itokin and Agbowa communities.

It has since supplying potable water supply to over a quarter of a million people who reside and work in these peri-urban zone of Lagos State, particularly,: Ado, Agbowa, Ago-hausa, Ago-owu, Ajebo-orugbo, Iganke, Ikosi, Odoayandelu, Otta-ikosi, among others.

 

Lagos Water Corporation, Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus attended maiden meeting of the “Twinning of the Cities of Lagos and Frankfurt”, at Frankfurt, Germany, on Monday 4th June, 2018.

The LWC boss joined some members of Lagos State Government cabinet on the official meeting aimed to exchange ideas on Transportation, Energy, Water and Waste Management, as well as perishable Food Storage.

The Lagos State Government delegation were the Special Adviser, Lagos Global, Prof. Abass Adebola; Hon. Comm. for Energy, Mr. Olawale Oluwo; Hon. Comm. for Transport, Mr. Ladi Lawason; Special Adviser on Food Security, Mr. Ganiu Okanlawon Sanni.

Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary, Min of the Environment, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye and General Manager, Lagos Waste Water Management, Mr. Matanmi Maroof Adebola.

Education is seen as a veritable instrument through which the Society transmit its cultural heritage from one generation to another which makes it a critical sector of governance in which Government must focus on to realize his vision for the Society.

The Lagos Water Corporation under the leadership of Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus has been leaving no stone unturned in making the Corporation accident free and safe environment for all, by organising one-day training to help LWC Staff equipped with modern trend/knowledge in Fire Safety Procedures.

This assertion was made by Head, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), Mrs. Williams Aramide, during the one-day training on Fire Safety Procedures, on Thursday 31st May, 2018, at the LWC Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos

In her statement, while lauding the efforts of the LWC management before the commencement of the training, Mrs. Williams said the LWC, MD/CEO is using the programme to aid effective training/teaching delivery on the subject matter as organised by the Department of HSSE.

According to her, while declaring the training open, she stressed that “The role training plays in the establishment cannot be overemphasized which make it imperative and inevitable for the building capacity of Staff which reflects in their output.”

“The essence of today capacity building is to ensure that Staff are aware of simple fire safety handling procedures in work place Environment.

The facilitator, Mr. Ayetoro Olawale during the workshop exposed the staff to modern skills, methods, practices and procedures required of them to realize a better qualitative knowledge/delivery.

According to him, “Fire is Chemical reaction of Oxygen, Fuel and Heat”, and further described Triangle of Extinction as Cooling, Starvation and Smothering.

Mr. Ayetoro classified Fire into four (4) categories: Class A – Free Combotible (Paper, Money, Cloth); Class B – Fire involving Flammable Liquid; Class C – Gaseous Fire; Class D – Fire involving Metal.

In his explanation, he explained that the causes of fire are as a result of Accident (unseen), Arson (intentional), and Carelessness (overloading of electrical sockets).

Types of Extinguisher are as follows:
1, Water Fire Extinguisher for Class A.
2, Foam Fire Extinguisher for B.
3, CO2 Fire Extinguisher for Class C (Multipurpose)
4, Dry Chemical Powder for Fire Extinguisher for D.

He however demonstrated a Fire Extinguisher by Pulling the Pin, Aiming the base, Squeezing the lever, and Sweeping from side to side.

In his conclusion, he urged the Staff to Raise an Alarm, Call the Fire Service on 767 or 112, and Evacuate the building whenever there is Fire Outbreak, as a prompt measure to stay away from danger and efforts to put off the Fire.

The Staff however thanked the Management for coming up with a programme like this and look forward to more of it in the nearest future.

They promised to impact the outcome of the training in the Corporation and their respective homes whenever there is Fire outbreak.

Lagos residents have lauded the Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, over its newly introduced LWC Mobile App for the improvement in the processes of billing collection and customers management.

Other new technologies lauded by the residents included the Water Metering Initiative, Geographical Information System (GIS), Asset Management for Operation Efficiency and Management of Infrastructure and Water Supply, among others.

The assertion was made recently at the Customers Sensitisation Forum held in Lagos to explain Steps to download and install the LWC Mobile Apps.

The corporation’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Engr. Muminu Badmus, while speaking at the forum revealed that the introduction of the LWC Mobile App was to improve the efficiency in the processes of billing collection and customers management, adding that customers could make payments in the comfort of their homes.

While explaining the steps, Badmus said the application could work on Android phones, and that as such, customer should possess the LWC Customer Reference Number to have access to all the functions and operations of the application.

“On your Android phone, go to Play Store, search column and type LWC Mobile App and Click on Download. After that, click on install after downloading, open the application for usage and remember you need to sign up as a customer if you want to access all the functions on the Mobile App,” he explained.

He added that customers should click on the right hand corner of the Mobile App , and that a drop-down list would appear with various option.

“On the drop-down list, sign up and provide all the details required of you. This details will help provide you with a username and password to use the LWC Mobile App effectively.

“In addition, a mail will be sent to the email address provided by you which will contain your username and password , and type in this username and password on the LWC Mobile App and you can now use all the utilities /functions of the App,” explained.

Badmus further insisted that only LWC customers with Customer Reference Number could perform this task effectively.

A resident of White Metta area, Mr. Azeez Babajide, lauded the corporation’s efforts towards making payments more easy, as water delivery/service had improve in the community, urging fellow customers to pay water bills as at when due, as a way to assist the corporation to sustain its operation.

Another resident, Mrs. Gloria Adams, advised the Water Corporation to always inform the public whenever there was water disruption and enjoined the Corporation to do more in closing water demand gap in the State.

She, therefore, commended the LWC Mobile App initiative as a remarkable idea and stress free method of making payments.

However, the Project Coordinator, Mr. Chidozie Agbakwuru enjoined Lagos residents, particularly the Water customers to adopt the new technology, noting that the App was also designed for the customers to enable them send requests or complaints, check payments, accounts statement and any other related records in terms of consumption, meter reading, among others, adding that the App was Customer friendly.
