LWC Kicks Off Rehabilitation And Replacement Of Distribution Network In Four Mini/Micro Waterworks towards Improving Access To Water Supply In The State

LAGOS: Lagos Water Corporation, has begun another round of projects Implementation flag-offs, with the rehabilitation and replacement of distribution network in four (4) mini/micro waterworks – Apapa I & II, Magodo I & II, Alexander I & II and Magodo III & Isolo towards improving access to potable water supply in the state.

This was made known today, Thursday 11th September 2025, during the kick-off ceremony/meeting held at the Corporation’s Headquarters, Water-House Boardroom, Ijora Lagos.

In his opening remarks, the LWC Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, who was ably represented by the Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs) Helen Omolanke Taiwo stated that the importance of the kick-off meeting can not be over-emphasized, as the aim is to serve Lagos Water consumers better.

He added, “The Corporation is putting in a series of efforts towards enhancing her assets, improving the existing ones as well as incorporating multi-modal assets management & operational approaches. “All these are aimed at improving our operational capability, increasing level of service and in turn improving the access to potable water in the state.”

One of the initiatives is the distribution network rehabilitation in the four (4) service areas, namely Magodo, Apapa, Alexander, and Isolo. Previously, the corporation has undertaken the assessment of the distribution network in the four service areas.

Engr. Tijani noted that following the successful completion of the procurement process with Lagos State Public Procurement Agency guidelines, projects were awarded to FBS Construction Engineering Services Ltd. (Magodo I & II); Serock Services Ltd. (Alexander I & II); Conswealth Nigeria Ltd. (Magodo III & Isolo) and Northcross Energy Ltd. (Apapa I & II).

However, during the kick-off, the Lagos State Ministries of Economic Planning & Budget (MEPB) and Works and Infrastructure have commended the LWC initiative, adjudged as a laudable projects, towards improving service delivery to Lagos residents.

In a separate response, Mr. Fuad Oyede (Director, Monitoring and Evaluation), representing the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), said that MEPB is ready to support the projects and to serve diligently. He assured the monitoring of the project milestone timeline through its schedule/duration.

In the same vein, his counterpart and the representative of the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. (Mrs.) Laolu Aishida added that the Ministry has been supportive and in partnership with the Corporation for many years.

“We are happy for this kick-off project, and we shall be part of it from beginning to the end.” She, however, requested for necessary information such as project design, programme of work, work schedule, among others to help the Ministry perform its task better.”

She urged the Corporation to involve the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban development to assist on the issue of Right of Way as the projects commence.

While congratulating the contractors on the projects, Engr. (Mrs) Helen Taiwo noted that the rehabilitation works are necessary at this time because the distribution networks have passed their age and need to be replaced, added that such rehabilitation was previously done in Abesan and Baruwa areas of the state.

“I hereby congratulate the contractors for the rehabilitation exercises/works with the purpose of prosperity.”

The Executive Director, Operations, later presented the project design to respective contractors with a 6-month timeline/duration, which commences today, 11th September 2025.
