Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) Organises Two-Day Familiarisation and Field Trip for Newly Recruited Staff

The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) today Friday 17th April 2026, successfully concluded a two-day familiarisation and field exposure programme for over 150 newly recruited staff, held on Thursday, 16th and Friday, 17th April 2026.

The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), and the Corporation’s Learning & Development Centre of the Human Resources Department, aimed to enhance technical competence, operational understanding, and overall workforce efficiency.

Facilitated by PSSDC officials and senior LWC personnel, the programme featured guided tours of three key water production facilities: the historic Iju Waterworks, the Akilo Mini Waterworks, and the Adiyan Waterworks — one of Lagos State’s largest water production sites.

Participants received practical insights into the full water production cycle, including:

  • Raw water intake, coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, chemical dosing, and disinfection.
  • Pumping stations, underground reservoirs, and water quality assurance protocols
  • Decentralised systems (borehole abstraction) at Akilo
  • Large-scale operations, intermediate pumping, and dual power sourcing at Adiyan.

The tours also highlighted critical operational challenges, particularly power supply instability, which continues to affect production consistency and capacity utilisation across the facilities. Additionally, participants were exposed to the historical evolution of Lagos’ water infrastructure, including preserved equipment from 1910 at Iju Waterworks.

The programme aligns with the vision of LWC’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, who has prioritised capacity building and operational excellence. It further supports the Lagos State Government’s agenda, under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to ensure sustainable access to potable water for residents.

Participants described the exercise as a transformative induction experience, fostering a deeper appreciation of water supply systems, while reinforcing core values of teamwork, discipline, and public service responsibility.

This hands-on initiative equips the new recruits with essential knowledge and practical exposure, strengthening LWC’s capacity to deliver improved water services across Lagos State.
