Lagos Water Corporation is planning to visit Water Customers for effective Service delivery. The Exercise will be commencing from Surulere Area of Lagos State on Thursday 7^th July, 2016 and will be extended to other parts of Lagos metropolis.

In a statement released at the Water House, Ijora, Lagos, the Corporation’s Group Managing Director, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus said the Officials of Lagos Water Corporation will be visiting the Customers to verify their Water problems like Over Billing, No Billing, Double Billing, No Water, Water Leakages, Non Reflection of Payments etc, in order to find lasting solution to the problems.

He however urged the residents of the State to cooperate with the Officials and give them necessary assistance.  The officials will be identified with the Lagos State Government Identity cards.

While assuring the Public of the Corporation’s commitment towards providing effective Service Delivery, Engr. Badmus said the Exercise is designed to improve water services to every home in Lagos, he concluded.

Lagos State Government, through Lagos Water Corporation has responded to the Publication in Nation Newspaper of Sunday 12th June 2016, titled “Iludun, host to Lagos Water Works, yet suffering lack and devastation”.

In his response to the publication, the Lagos Water Corporation, Group Managing Director/CEO, Engineer Muminu Adekunle Badmus, said the State is committed to Safety of lives and properties of inhabitants of host communities of its facilities. He said that in line with International best practices the Corporation has carried out an Environment Impact Assessment prior to the execution of the Project.

The GMD/CEO further explained that the channel for backwash water was originally designed as a drainage, which gradually became bigger overtime. Engineer Muminu Badmus stated that it is the practice of the Corporation to discharge Wastewater into the approved channel.

He however re-assured that effort at remedying the situation has commenced with a comprehensive study of the environment towards proffering a lasting solution.

Meanwhile, the Consultant has completed the study and submitted the report to the State Government, which is currently being reviewed with a view to possible remediation by the State Government, he concluded.

Lagos Water Corporation has restored water supply to Lagos metropolis recently affected by epileptic power supply due to vandalism of gas pipelines in the Niger Delta Region of the Country.

The LWC Group Managing Director (GMD)/CEO, Mr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus who stated this during a Press Conference at the Water House in Ijora, recently, said the heavy duty pumps at the waterworks required high voltage and added that the IPP built for some of the waterworks have not been working in full capacity because of the disruption in gas supply. The LWC boss appealed to the residents of the State to be patient, as the Corporation is working assiduously to ensure water supply get to every part of the State and assured those that have not received water now to be patient as Water supply will get to them soon.

Mr. Badmus who said the Corporation was not happy with the development and has taken steps to redress the situation by reconnecting some of the waterworks to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and some diesel-powered generators expressed hope that in the next few days, Lagosians would see an increase in the supply of the Service. He said, LWC was also looking at other options, including Solar and propane to power the waterworks.

The Water Corporation Group Managing Director who debunked rumours that the state government was planning to privatize the Water Corporation explained that government was only discussing with investors to boost water supply, as the project is not a profit driven. ‘’In addition, LWC has also completed arrangement with investors to implement commercial water distribution kiosk projects as a pilot scheme to install, manage and generate revenue from the venture using pre-paid meters”. The pilot scheme is expected to commence from recently commissioned Otta-Ikosi Regional Waterworks and will be extended to Mosan Okunola Mini Waterworks of 2Million Gallons per Day.

Mr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus seized the opportunity to appeal to residents to bear with the Corporation in its strive to address the challenges and to stop illegal connection of water pipes as such act can leads to cross contamination in water and results in water-borne diseases, such as gastric-flu that may lead to cholera, diarrhea among others and urged the public to report anyone engaging in any illegal connections to water mains through the LWC help line or Customer Care Line on 07045973012 or our email on info@lagoswater.org.

The Citic Construction and Walfor Engineering are partnering with Lagos Water Corporation on Investment Opportunities in Water Sector to put the State on track. The Group Managing Director/CEO, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Muminu Badmus made this assertion recently during the Investors courtesy call to the Water House, Ijora, recently.

The LWC boss said partnering with investors is a panacea to the Water scarcity, he said Government alone cannot fund Water Provision in the State because of other social services, like Education, Security, Housing, Transportation etc. The Engineer said “we need fresh injection of Private capital to make water available to every home in the State”.

In his contribution, the President of African Division, Citic Construction, Mr. Liu Guigen said partnering with Water Corporation through Construction of Treatment plant, Rehabilitation of Waterworks and Mains reticulation will boost Water supply in the State. In addition, the President of Adjunte, Citic Construction added that Investing in IPP and Pre-Paid Metering would be included in their proposal on the Investment Opportunities in Water Sector, as discussion is on-going.

Lagos Water Corporation has appealed to the general public for the discomfort and inconveniences presently experienced over temporary disruption of water supply in some parts of Lagos metropolis, as a result of shortage of Gas in its Independent Power Plant (IPP) at Akute Intake and other water power plants.

In a statement issued today at the Water House, Ijora, Lagos, by the Management of the Corporation, “the disruption of water supply is due to current vandalization of Gas pipelines in the Niger Delta Region of the Country which has adversely affected the Production at its various Water facilities across the State”.

The Corporation is currently working relentlessly on the alternative power supply to restore power to its Waterworks.

While assuring the Public of the Corporation’s commitment towards providing un-interrupted water supply in the State, the Management urges the general public to bear with the Corporation as the problem is for a short while.

The Lagos State Government has reinstated its commitment to the Lagos Community Development. This assertion was made at the Official Commissioning of the Otta-Ikosi Regional Waterworks, today, 19th May, 2016, at Otta-Ikosi Lagos, by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Special Adviser on Community Communication, Hon, Kehinde Bamgbetan. While delivering a speech, he said the State has improved the security apparatus, intensified the provision of infrastructure to ensure enabling environment for viable and vibrant economy. And he further said the commissioning of the project underscores the State philosophy of inclusion.

In his remarks, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Mr. Muminu Badmus, has said Lagos State government is determined to make potable water available to all residents.

Badmus, an engineer, who spoke at Otta-Ikosi in Agbowa-Ikosi Local Government, at the inauguration of Otta-Ikosi Regional Waterworks, said the government would ensure the availability of potable water in all parts of the state.
He said: “Up till now, the supply of sufficient potable water to meet the demand of the people is a task to many nations across the globe, including Nigeria, and indeed Lagos is faced with the same challenge”.
“In line with the state’s policy to ensure water is supplied to every home in Lagos, the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration has continued to rehabilitate the major waterworks across the state, as well as expand distribution network to meet demand for water by the people”.

Badmus said in despite that the government built many water facilities – five major waterworks and 34 mini water-works to supply water to resident, it has been a Herculean task to meet the demand of the resident and the facility can compete favorably with other Water facilities across the globe
Badmus explained that the water demand of 20 million Lagosians is about 540 million gallons per day, while the state is producing 210 million gallons per day. it, therefore, become imperative for us to keep expanding by building more water facilities. Therefore, become imperative for us to keep expanding by building more water facilities such as this to tackle this challenge.

The LWC managing director said the present administration is aware that Otta-Ikosi and other neighbouring communities are in need of water supply. For this reason, the Government has decided to build this regional waterworks with daily production capacity of 18 million litres to serve nine communities between Itokin and Agbowa. They include Ado, Agbowa, Ago Hausa, Ago Owu, Ajebo Orugbo, Iganke, Ikosi, Odo Ayandelu and Otta Ikosi.
The Goup Managing Director said LWC has designed a water distribution kiosk, which is first of its kind in Nigeria and it will be connected to water mains in the communities around Otta-Ikosi to increase access to potable water, thereby improving public health and sanitation as well as creating jobs.
He urged residents to assist the corporation to protect the waterworks from vandals, so that government investment would not go down the drain.

Badmus said the waterworks would guarantee uninterrupted water supply in the communities and improve the living condition.

Lagos State Government has assured all Lagosians of potable water supply. This statement was made at the official commissioning of Mosan Okunola Mini Waterworks recently, by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Special Adviser on Housing; Mrs. Aramide Giwanson. Ambode said the Mini Waterworks has a capacity to meet the needs of residents of Abesan, Baruwa and other neighbouring communities. He said “this administration is committed to develop the State with his open-government initiative to MDA’s Local Government, Communities, and assured Lagosians of Clean, Safe and Potable Water in the State”.
Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Group Managing Director (GMD) Mr. Muminu Badmus, said the Mini Waterworks is borne out of the passion and commitment of the Lagos State government to provide potable water for the people. He further said “contract for the construction of then Mini waterworks was awarded in May 2009 to Messrs. Eldorado Nigeria Ltd. at the cost of N457,363,149.50 by the State Government. It has a five kilometer reticulation pipe networks. It is characterized by a huge volumetric head advantage, resulting from gravitational fall of water from an overhead tank with a capacity for 50,000 gallons at a height of 18m”.
Engr. Badmus urges the public to stay away from water pipe vandalization and other breakages and asked people to report such activities to Water Distribution Kiosk or Contact LWC Customer Care Line on 07045973012.
In his own contribution, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare urged the residents to ensure that the Mini Waterworks is protected from the vandals to prevent government’s huge investment from going down the drain, he concluded.

LWC BOSS ASSURES WORKERS OF JOB SECURITY

The Lagos Water Corporation Group Managing Director, Engineer Muminu Adekunle Badmus has assured the workers of job security. The GMD made this assertion during the Staff forum organized by the LWC Union, under the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service and Technical Employers, Lagos Water Corporation Chapter and the Corporation Staff, today at the LWC Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos.

He said there is a miscommunication among the Staff concerning the issue of Public Private Partnership (PPP); the GMD said “PPP initiative entails the fresh injection of private capital into the efficient management of government-owned assets, and not the sale of government-owned assets to private investors as misconstrued in some quarters”. The GMD said the model is not peculiar to Lagos, Nigeria alone and was first practised in Cote d’ivoire in 1959 with the introduction of Urban Water Affermage, a successful operation, and being embraced in other parts of the continent, like South Africa, Algeria, Uganda etc’’. He further allayed the fears of the Staff for loosing their jobs during the implementation of the PPP Strategy. He pledged that during his own tenure, as the GMD, nobody will ever loose his or her job, except it involves gross misconduct, re-iterating that the LWC Union members will be fully involved during the initiation and implementation of the PPP model.

Engineer Badmus explained that the disruption of Water Supply experienced recently was not deliberate by the the Lagos State Government as speculated, but due to erratic power supply from the IPP which has made it extremely difficult for the major waterworks to run to their designed capacity. He said that an alternative arrangement has been made to tackle power problems, assuring the public that the water supply will be regular as the State has given the Corporation needed support to ensure effective service delivery.

Engineer Muminu therefore, enjoined the Staff for their Cooperation and understanding as he is ready to take the Corporation to the next level, where potable Water provision will be in abundance in the State, he concluded.

Lagos Water Corporation has restored potable water to the Shoprite Complex, Alausa – Ikeja and its environs after few weeks of disruption of water supply due to power outage.

In a statement released at the Water House, Ijora, Lagos, the Corporation’s Group Managing Director, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus said the Lagos Water Corporation has resumed water production and supply at Alausa Waterworks which had earlier stopped water production because of erratic power supply. .

Speaking over the incident, the GMD said, “the Corporation appreciates the general public, especially the residents of Alausa, Ikeja and its environs for their patience and understanding as our sincere efforts are geared towards ensuring quality, improved, safe and regular water supply for the benefit of the residents of Lagos State”, he concluded.
