
APAPA LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO PARTNER LWC TOWARDS SERVICE DELIVERY
As part of the plans of the Apapa Local Government to celebrate her 100 days in office, the Newly Elected Chairman is set to partner with Lagos Water Corporation towards service delivery to her jurisdiction.
This assertion was made known yesterday Wednesday 18th August, 2021, during the Local government working visit to LWC Water-House, Ijora, Lagos.
The Apapa Local Government delegate was led by the newly sworn-in Chairman, Honourable (Mrs.) Idowu Sebanjo, in company of the Vice Chairman, Honourable Ganiu Ismail; Chief of Staff, Mr. Bamidele Avoseh; among other notable officials of Apapa Local Government.
In her Statement, the Honourable Chairman requested for potable water supply to the LG area to celebrate her 100 days in Office, as part of the dividends of democracy for the good people of Apapa LGA.
She added that the area cannot continue to depend on informal sector, particularly, the borehole water supply because of its quality, which is not reliable and cannot be compared to LWC public water, adding that the LWC Headquarters is within the Apapa neighborhood
In his swift response, the Corporation’s Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Engr. Suraj Ijaiya, who represented the LWC Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus requested for a partnership, in form of support towards potable water supply to the area.
Engr. Ijaiya who earlier commended the initiative of the LG Chairman, said that, presently, the Corporation is going through difficult period and struggling to meet water demand in the State, adding that the Corporation will require a financial support from the LG for the provision of the service to the residents of the area.
“We are ready to partner with you to relieve the suffering of the inhabitants/residents of your Local government from Water scarcity”
He noted that the Local Government and Residents of the area failed to pay for water service delivered to that area, which necessitated disconnection of Power supply to the 2.4Million Gallons per Day (MGD)Apapa Mini Waterworks by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company.
Engr. Ijaiya explained further that the Corporation did not want to continue running to the state government for assistance, because Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor, Lagos State, led administration, is assiduously working towards Resuscitating/Rehabilitating the major waterworks in the State, particularly, the Ishasi Water plant that is supplying the axis.
He however added that Apapa and Ijora Oloye areas currently lacking Water Supply from Apapa Mini Waterworks is presently faced with problems of power supply, as a result of cable theft by hoodlums in that area.
Urging the Local Government to provide another cable to hasten realization of provision of water supply to the affected areas of the LGA, as discussion is ongoing.
