
Growing Cholera Outbreak in Nigeria: LWC WARNS RESIDENTS AGAINST CONSUMPTION OF UNSAFE WATER
…. appeals to Lagosians to always patronise the Public Water Supply Following increasing cases of growing Cholera Outbreak in Nigeria, Lagos water corporation in continuation of her efforts to ensure provision and consumption of safe and qualitative Water delivery to her customers, warned Residents against consumption of unsafe/ untreated Water. This was contained in a press statement released on Thursday 16th, September, 2021, at the LWC Water-House, Ijora, Lagos.
The Corporation in its statement stated that the general public should acquaint with the real cause of Cholera Outbreak, which is consumption of untreated/unsafe water supply, lack of basic sanitation facility. There is need to educate the general public on the need for basic sanitation and hygienic facilities amongst others.
LWC however appealed to Lagosians to always patronise the Public Water Supply, and desist from consumption of unsafe/ untreated water supply from informal sector that cannot be guaranteed. Noting that drinking polluted groundwater or contaminated water can cause many types of diseases, which include Cholera, diarrhoea and other serious illnesses such as Guinea worm , Typhoid, Dysentery, amongst others
“Public water supply is good for human consumption, because it is treated, safe and free from germs and it conforms with World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Standard”.
LWC Water Quality Monitoring team is presently embarking on its holistic Water Quality Monitoring /Sensitisation & Awareness campaign to monitor water quality at customer’s taps in order to ascertain quality service delivery to her customers and ensure residents are served with good quality water.
