MAKING LAGOS A 21ST CENTURY ECONOMY, PROVISION OF WATER SUPPLY IS CRUCIAL – S.A. To The Lagos State Governor On PMO

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatal Monitoring Office (PMO), Honourable Afolabi Ayantayo has declared that making Lagos a 21st Century Economy is everybody business in the State, particularly, provision and sustainable Potable Water Supply to Lagos Residents, adding that without Water, there will be no Life.

Honourable Ayantayo made this assertion during the Parastatal Monitoring Office (PMO) Courtesy call on facts findings to Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) Headquarters Water-House Ijora Lagos, yesterday Friday 26th November, 2021.

The Special Adviser who could not hide his feelings on the current state of the Corporation stated that the present situation is un-improving from his last visit to the Corporation in October, 2019 to address issues of Infrastructure to provide potable water supply to Lagosians.

He stated that “Water is very essential for human and plants existence, as Water is Life”, urged the Corporation to put down a sustainable partnership that can work to provide and sustain potable water supply in the State.

Noting that the Corporation needed funds to improve in her operations and suggested that she should explore Public-Private Partnership (PPP) as a viable option, as the State cannot solely fund all LWC Projects, because of other sectors such as Works and Infrastructure, Education, Health, among others.

He also advised that the Corporation should seek for needed grants from International Agency towards Water provision in the State, because the mandate of LWC is to drive Water provision in the State.

Mr. Ayantayo asked the Management of LWC to forward a detailed response to the PMO questionnaires to address the Challenges that are militating against her efficiency towards service delivery.

In her contributions, the Permanent Secretary to the PMO, Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu faulted the LWC Management on the present situation of the Corporation, noting that to provide and sustain potable Water supply is crucial in the developmental programmes of the administration of Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as contained in second (2nd) Pillar of the 5 Pillars of Lagos T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda, Health and Environment.

The LWC Chief Operating Officer (COO), Engr. Deji Johnson who represented the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus who unavoidably absent during the PMO courtesy call thanked the S.A., P.S. and other delegates of Parastatal Monitoring Office (PMO), and assured the Special Adviser to the Governor of speedy and accurate response to the PMO’s requests.
