LAGOS IMPROVES WATER SUPPLY WITH 10 MILLION MGD

The Lagos State Government has improved water production and supply to Lagos residents with additional over 10 million Gallons per Day (MGD).

Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosimi-Etti revealed this during the 2018 Ministerial Press Briefing in Lagos.

Mr. Durosimi-Etti said, the commitment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in meeting water demand in the State has contributed immensely to various successful project in Water sector.

“The State Government, through Lagos Water Corporation embarked and completed rehabilitation of some Waterworks as part of its efforts to provide uninterrupted potable water supply in the State”.

While attributing the success in improved service delivery to the huge investment of the State Government in the sector, the Commissioner enumerated some competed projects which led to a major boost in water supply in the last one year.

The completed projects are: Rehabilitation of Ishasi Waterworks of 4MGD to serve corridor of Mile 12, Owode, Barracks, Alaba International, Old Ojo Road, Ajangbadi and other adjoining communities; Rehabilitation of 48 Mini Waterworks situated in different areas of Lagos, including Ikeja, Surulere, Onikan, Epe, Iponri, Badagry, Lekki, Victoria Island, Ajangbadi, Dolphin, Ikoyi, Badore, Apapa, Ikate, Shomolu, Alexandra, Magodo, Meiran, among others.

Others are: Imeke Iworo Mini Waterworks of 2MGD to complement the 4MGD Ishasi Waterworks, and will serve parts of Badagry and other adjoining communities, 45MGD Iju and 75MGD Adiyan to produce and supply at their optimal capacity; Akute intakes supplying fresh water to the major treatment plants of Iju and Adiyan and so on.

Durosimi-Etti added that other outstanding/notable projects such as: refurbishment of generating sets and installation of 33KV Panel and Accessories; repair of leakages and burst pipes within Lagos Metropolis as a result of activities of road construction and telecommunications outfits/companies; introduction of Geographical Information System (GIS), and asset management for operational efficiency and management of infrastructure and water supply system; deployment of over 17,000 units prepaid meters in Lekki, Ikeja, Magodo, MKO Abiola Garden, Surulere, Yaba/Ebute Metta, Iwaya, Victoria Island etc. being phase I; Introduction of Payment options (LWC mobile payments, ATM/POS, internet, bank branches e.t.c.).

He added that all these achievement is worthwhile as 90 immigrants entered Lagos State on daily basis, and the need to increase Water supply to meet the ever growing demand cannot be toy with.

LWC LAUNCHES BILLING AND COLLECTION PLATFORM

Lagos Water Corporation has launched its Billing and Collection platform called LWC mobile.

The Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus revealed this over the weekend while meeting with media in Lagos.

“This is one of the Corporation’s efforts, inconformity with the State’s Cashless policy embarked upon by the Lagos State Government “.

Engr. Badmus said the main objective of the platform is to improve the efficiency in the processes of Billing collection and Customers management.

He added that, the App is designed for the Customers to enable send requests or complaints, check payments, Accounts statement and any other related records in terms of consumption, meter reading etc, noting that the App is Customer friendly.

” The beauty of the app is that Customers can make payments through the App in the comfort of their homes”, MD said.

The App also has various supporting information, like LWC addresses, process of connection etc.

LWC boss stressed that, the App is live presently, and enjoined the Customers to log-in and use. It is very convenient, as it makes payments much more easier than going to the Banks for payment.

Customers can pay any amount irrespective of the amount stated on the bills.

Other Payments channels are through: Internet, POS, Banks etc.

The LWC, Head (Sales and Commercial) Mr. Ajose Micheal however, urged Lagosians to enjoy the Corporation’s improved service delivery by connecting to the Public Water, and get connected within 3days.

“Customers can now connect water online or download the connection form from the LWC website, fill and submit online or to the LWC nearest zonal or regional offices nearest to them and get connected within 3days”, he concluded.

LAGOS WATER CORPORATION WINS WATER LEADERS, AFRICA WATER QUALITY AWARDS

The Lagos Water Corporation in the first quarter of the year 2018 has recorded outstanding achievements as the agency won two separate awards in a roll, within the month of April 2018.

These historical achievements will forever linger in the memories of the management and staff of the largest water producer in sub-Saharan Africa as their collective and tireless efforts were globally recognized and applauded.

In Paris,? France, between the 15th and 18th of April 2018, Lagos Water Corporation bagged “Water Leader Award” at the Global Water Summit 2018,? organized by the Global Water Intelligence, in recognition of the corporation’s operational sustainability for Africa?s largest city”.

This was the first time an African country from sub-Sahara would be nominated for the most coveted Global Water Awards which is designed to reward excellence and innovation, recognizing the deals, projects technologies which have been making waves in the past years.

The Global Water Summit widely known as the leading water industry conference, annually brings together thousands of players in the water industry, from top public and private water utilities in the world as well as manufacturers, investors, infrastructural developers and multilateral funding partners in the water industry.

The Minister for Water Resources Engr. Suleiman Hussein Adamu accompanied by the Director for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Engr. Benson Ajisegiri presented the award to Lagos Water Corporation Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus.

While receiving the prestigious award, the LWC boss expressed his profound gratitude to the organizers of the event, and attributed the successes recorded by the corporation to the unflinching support received from the Governor of Lagos State, His excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

He further said the state government has been proactive in supplying potable water to every home in the state, by investing immensely in the water sector.

?What we are witnessing today is the evidence of the huge investment in? the water sector by the Governor ?Ambode led administration”.

Engr. Badmus lauded the efforts of the management and staff of the corporation towards effective service delivery, saying he is overwhelmed by the staff outstanding performance in moving the corporation to the next level.

He commended the efforts of Engr. MrsTitilola Bright-Oridami of the Monitoring / Evaluation department and Mr.? Anifowoshe O. Rasaq ?Corporate Communication for a good job done during the compilation of materials for the prestigious award.

Highlights of the event included round table discussions on how Lagos Water Corporation intends to bridge the gap in water supply and the opportunities available for private investors and infrastructure developers.

The participants were interested in the possible investment opportunities in the water sector

Other participants interested in the possible investment opportunities in the Lagos water sector were CDC investors, Maynilad , Nexus Group, Total, Xylem, KFW Apex Bank IFC among others.

The corporation in 2017 received an award of excellence from the Yoruba Tennis Club in appreciation of her improved and effective service delivery to Lagosians.

Also, recently, LWC emerged as Africa’s Best Premium Quality Clean Water Solution Provider of the year 2018 in recognition of the quality service provided by Lagos State Government, through Lagos Water Corporation.

LWC EMERGES THE WINNER OF AFRICA’S BEST PREMIUM QUALITY CLEAN WATER SOLUTION PROVIDER OF THE YEAR 2018

Abuja – Nigeria Lagos Water Corporation has emerged as the winner of Africa’s Best Premium Quality Clean Water Solution Provider of the year 2018.

“This is in recognition of her production and supply of quality, clean and safe water to Lagos residents.”

This was revealed at the Work Quality Summit (Special Edition) organised by the World Quality Alliance at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, Lagos, today Thursday 12th April, 2018.

While receiving the prestigious Award on behalf of the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, Mrs. Jaiyeola Adetumininu of Quality Assurance department thanked the organiser for appreciating the efforts of the State Government towards provision of clean and safe water to Lagos residents.

In her speech on importance of quality, she stressed that the state has placed high premium on production and supply of quality water in state, noting that the present leadership of the Corporation, led by Engr. Muminu Badmus will not relent in his efforts in producing quality water, that conform to World Health Organization’s (WHO) standard.

In the same vein, December 2017, the Corporation received an Award of Excellence from Yoruba Tennis Club in appreciation of her improved and effective service delivery to Lagosians.

LWC TAKES TO LAGOS STREETS TO CELEBRATE WORLD WATER DAY IN A GRAND STYLE

IJORA, LAGOS Lagos Water Corporation today 22nd March, 2018 took to Lagos Streets to celebrate/commemorate year 2018 World Water Day in a grand style.

This is another/different fashion of celebration known as “Road Show” from common workshop and seminars known of for many years.

“The theme for this year World Water Day is: “Nature for Water”.

The Corporation’s Staff went out in a large number to Lagos Streets to sensitize the public about on Water Conservation and Judicious use of Water which is limited in quantity. Also, to educate Lagosians how to connect to Public Water within 3 days.

Fliers were distributed to the general Pubic on Water tips and procedure for Water Connection as souvenir to take home.

The movement covered 8 LWC Operational regions and Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos.

The Headquarters’ team train took off from Ijora-Olopa stopped at oyingbo, Sabo, followed Ikorodu road, (Palmgrove) Ojota/Ogudu, Gbagada, Bariga among other area.

The LWC boss, Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus Who is unavoidability absent for the WWD Celebration wished the Staff successful outing and a hitch free celebration.

While briefing the media and Staff before the take-off, the LWC, Chief Operating Officer, Engr. Deji Johnson, who represented the MD/CEO enjoined the participants/Staff to be a worthy ambassador of the Corporation and be polite while attending to Customers.

He stressed that the outing his in line with the activities line up for the 3-day 2018 Word Water Day celebration, adding that the importance of provision of Water supply in the State cannot be underestimated.

Engr. Johnson said “we need to sensitize the public to conserve water which is limited in supply, so that other people can enjoy the service”.

The State Governor, Mr. Akimwunmi Ambode has invested so much on Water provision, so that every household in the State can enjoy effective service, so we need to conserve and make judicious use of it.

Earlier, on Monday 19th March, 2018, the Corporation organised “Free Water Test” across the State to confirm the quality of Water the Corporation is supplying the Lagos residents, noting that borehole Water is contaminated.

Public Water is potable, safe and free from germs and other pathogens.

Tuesday was Pre event Media briefing and Inauguration of Water Ambassadors to serve as mouth piece for the Corporation to disseminate information to the Public on Water Conservation, reportage of burst pipes among others.

LWC UNVEILS LAGOS STATE CHILDREN PARLIAMENT AS ‘WATER AMBASSADORS’

Lagos Water Corporation today Tuesday 20th March, 2018 unveiled the Lagos State members of the Children Parliament as Water Ambassadors, as part of activities to mark 2018 World Water Day to hold on Thursday 22nd March, 2018,

The event took place during a media briefing at the Water House Ijora, by the LWC Chief Operating Officer (COO), Engr. Deji Johnson.

Engr. Johnson said it is imperative for the Corporation to engage State members of the Children Parliament as Water Ambassadors because globally, children were the most affected by water crises, noting that they are to serve as mouth piece of the Corporation, as the Staff cannot be on the Street at all time because of the other engagements.

He further stressed that the choice of the children as water ambassadors was also in line with the State Government?s vision of developing the children who are mostly in secondary schools for future leadership positions.

He added that the ongoing ‘Free Water Test’ embarked upon by the Corporation is part of activities marking this year?s World Water Day, which started yesterday to cover eight operational regions, and divided to four areas for easy accessibility.

While condemning the borehole water as contaminated water, the COO enjoined Lagosians to connect to the Corporation?s water as only safe and germ free water with a credible source, adding that the Public water conforms with World Health Organisation’s standard.

He said a roadshow would be held on Thursday 22nd March, 2028 to further sensitize the residents on water conservation and its Judicious use, and procedures on how to connect to LWC Water.

While appreciating the LWC management for the honour, the Speaker of the Children Parliament, Rt. Hon. Raphael Ikuyinminu promised the Parliamentarians’ commitment to the Corporation, as they would be good ambassadors of the LWC.

As parts of their responsibilities, the ‘Water Ambassador’ are expected to sensitize the general Public on Water Conservation and Judicious use of the product which is limited in quantity, also, to serve as feedback mechanism to the Corporation.

 

LWC FLAGS OFF 2018 WORLD WATER DAY WITH FREE WATER TEST

Lagos Water Corporation has flagged off 2018 World Water Day in grand style with Free Water Test across Lagos State.

The 3-day events has commenced today at the Corporation Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos, today 19th March, 2018, to cover 8 LWC Operational regions.

While briefing the Press and the team from Quality Assurance and Sales & Commercial Departments before the take-off, Head, Quality Assurance, Mrs. Banire Monsurat enjoined the Staff to be worthy Ambassadors of the Corporation, urging them to be polite in answering questions and always be friendly because they are all LWC Esteemed Customers.

The Exercise is expected to cover the 8 operational regions of LWC, which have been marked to 4 areas (Lagos Island, Surulere, Ikeja etc.) for easy accessibility.

“You are expected to take samples of Water used in the locations cover irrespective of water used, LWC, Borehole Water among others.

The essence is to show the general public the quality of Water the Corporation is serving the Public, adding that LWC Water is clean, safe and good for human consumption, she added.

She further stated that borehole water is contaminated and urged them to migrate/connect to LWC Water, which conform to World Health Organisation’s Standard.

This year?s theme: “NATURE FOR WATER” explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.

Environmental damage, together with climate change, is driving the water-related crises we see around the world. Floods, drought and water pollution are all made worse by degraded vegetation, soil, rivers and lakes.

When we neglect our ecosystems, we make it harder to provide everyone with the water we need to survive and thrive.

Tuesday 20th March, 2018 is designed for Media Press Briefing and Inauguration of Water Ambassadors, while 22nd is the D-day for Road Show across the State with distribution of fliers and sensitization of the public on Water Conservation and procedures on how to connect to LWC Water to bring the 3-day events to an end.

 

RESIDENTS OF OWORO LAUD LASG OVER WATER METERING PROGRAMME, COMMEND ON IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY

The residents of Oworonshoki community have lauded the Lagos State Government over the Water Metering program and overall improved Water supply across the State.

The Oloworo of Oworonshoki, His Royal Highness, Oba Bashir Oloruntoyin Soliu, (Elebo I) made this assertion today 13th March, 2018, in his palace while meeting with the Management of Lagos Water Corporation, led by the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Miminu Adekunle Badmus and his entourage over the billing complaint by the residents.

Oba Bashir declared in a strongest term, that Water Metering has come to stay in Oworo, because it is a State Government policy to conserve Water and pay for actual water used.

Oloworo of Oworo land also commended the Corporation over recent improved water supply across the State and prayed for its sustainability.

“We, Oworonshoki residents now enjoy uninterrupted potable Water supply, which cannot be compared to contaminated borehole water”

His Royal Highness however urged LWC to fast track installation of meters in the remaining properties in the community, noting that the system is a welcome initiative.

As our appreciation and support for LWC, we shall pay our water bills as when due, he stated.

Engr. Badmus in his contribution thanked the Kabiesi in his efforts toward bringing water supply to the community.

He praised the Oloworo for using his position to bring resolution to the residents complaint, adding that water Corporation is always ready to listen to the complaints of the customers and resolve the issues amicably, he concluded.

LASG TASKS WATER CORPORATION FOR IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY

The Lagos State Government has tasked the Water Corporation for improved service delivery to the Lagos residents. The Honourable commissioner for Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosimi-Etti made this remark during his surprise visit to the Corporation Headquarters, Ijora, Lagos, on Wednesday 7th March, 2018.

The Commissioner stated that Lagosians should have access to uninterrupted potable water supply, noting the challenges faced by the Corporation, particularly non-payment of water bills, Water theft among others.

?In his statement, Mr. Durosimi-EttiI commended the Corporation?s Staff for their commitment and zeal towards taking the Corporation to the next level. He applauded Engr. Badmus for his brilliant initiative, pro-activeness and efforts towards ensuring regular water supply in the State?.

He, therefore, enjoined the Corporation to extend water to residents of estates and bring into the LWC database as many estates are yearning for safe drinking water.

He said, over the years, population explosion has continued to stretch social amenities in the State and that is why it is important to be resilient, proactive, innovative and committed to effective service delivery.

Mr. Durosimi-Etti assured the Corporation of the State Government?s support and assistance where there are gaps militating against its operations so that it can excel in performing its primary responsibility of providing potable water.
In his remarks, the Corporation?s Managing Director, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus enumerated some programs embarked upon by the Corporation to improve water supply in the State which include: Performance Enrichment Sustainability Program (PESP), Service Incentive Mechanism (SIM), Geographical Information System (GIS) and Asset Management System, Billing and Collection Efficiency, Metering initiative among others.

MD added that in its bid to move the Customers closer to the Corporation, take necessary decisions on issues affecting the regions towards improvement of service delivery and revenue generation, the Corporation was divided into Eight (8) business regions, headed by Regional Business Managers.

He assured the Commissioner that with the support the Corporation is receiving from the Government and different program put in place, the Corporation is set to bridge the demand gap in the State.
